Tools

These are some of the most common tools used in our projects. Our toolset is always expanding and being adapted for new problems, so this list is a living document.

A set of keywords and definitions compiled by a team that are relevant to the issues they are attempting to address. Having a common language glossary gets everyone on the same page for complex discussions.

One-on-one conversations that allow the members of an organization to clarify their perspective, strategize for group conversations, or raise concerns with FMRA.

A set of community guidelines. They are typically presented at the beginning of a group activity to equip everyone with tools to have respectful and honest interactions.

A short survey designed to prioritize concerns and areas of focus in order to make better use of ideation workshops. Pre-workshop surveys can be administered in conjunction with temperature checks prior to ideation workshops to lead discussions and improve agenda organization.

An evaluative tool based on consensus decision making. Its value lies not only in the outcomes it produces, but also in the group conversations it engenders through the process of arriving at each assessment.

Conducting ideation workshops in small groups, rather than a single full day workshop with the entire team, allows for greater communication and participation among participants.

Interviews are used to understand the needs, thoughts, and feelings of team members as they pertain to organizational culture, racial justice, and equity.

A short questionnaire or survey designed to be administered at regular intervals or at moments of inflection that tracks changes over time.
